Access Statement
for the Isles of Scilly Country Guesthouse

Introduction

We aim to cater for the individual needs of all who visit the guesthouse. We have a total of 15 bedrooms all of which are on the ground floor.  The property is all on one level making access to rooms and all other facilities nice and easy.

Smoking is not permitted anywhere in the guesthouse.

  • There is a local bus service which operates regular services between April and October. The guesthouse has its own stop right outside the front gate next to the roadside.
  • Hugh Town, the main town, is 25 minutes walking distance and 5 minutes by car.
  • There are a number of local taxi services. Details and contact numbers are displayed on the notice board in the front entrance hall.
  • Groceries and other goods can be delivered by the local stores or by carrier from the quay. 
  • The guesthouse can provide a wheelchair for those guests with mobility difficulties.  The Rotary Club can assist with mobility vehicle hire. 

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities

  • Please advise us of your anticipated arrival time so we can be sure we are here to welcome you.
  • On arrival we ask all guests to use the front entrance which is about 15 metres from the gate over a level tarmac surface.  The front entrance is well lit at night and receives good natural light throughout the day.
  • There is only one car parking space on the premises.  Generally It is not advisable to bring a car to Scilly as there is only 8 miles of road on St Mary’s and the car would need to be carried as freight on either the Gry Maritha or Scillonian III.
  • People arriving by taxi or car can be dropped right outside the front door.
  • The front entrance area consists of a a level tarmac surface which remains level into the main building and front entrance hall.  There are no steps or ramps.
  • We offer to assist all guests with their luggage.

Main Entrance, Reception 

  • There is one main entrance without steps or ramps.  It is all on one level.
  • There is a ship's bell situated next to the notice board on the left hand side of the entrance hall to get assistance.
  • There is a hard wareing coir hair mat as you first enter the building then carpet covers the rest of the hallway, rooms and sitting room.
  • The hall is well lit in the day by natural light and at night by spot lights.
  • There is a notepad and pen available on the reception desk.
  • There are additional keys to all of the rooms available on request.
  • We do not have restricted opening hours.  The front door is always open.
  • There is an armchair and 3 chairs in the hall.
  • The entrance door is a wide side hung door.
  • The floor is level throughout the reception and hall area.
  • The reception area is 4mx1.50m and is all on one level.
  • All associated corridors are one level. 
  • On arrival our guests are required to sign a registration form and then shown to their rooms and all our facilities are explained.

Public Areas - Hall, Stairs, Landing, Corridors etc

  • The main entrance is accessed through a manual door as are all the bedroom doors.
  • Emergency procedures are explained in the guest information folder in each room.
  • Public access is all on one level.  All rooms are at ground floor. 
  • Corridors are 1.20 m wide and all doors are clearly numbered. 
  • There are self closing fire doors in the corridors and dining room. 
  • The public toilet is on one level and is situated next to the dining room. 
  • All lighting is bright. 
  • Pets are well catered for, we can provide water bowls, food bowls and poopa scoops on request.

Public Areas - Sitting room, lounges, lobbies etc

  • Guests are welcome to use the sitting room at any time
  • The sitting room is on one level and is adjacent to the dining room from which a corridor provides access to all of the guest rooms on the same level. 
  • Open space between sitting and dining room. 
  • The sitting room has two sofas and 4 armchairs.  This room also has a television and video player with a good selection of videos to choose from, a radio/CD player, plus a wide selection of books, magazines and games to play.
  • The public toilet is to be found adjacent to the dining room.

Public Area – Dining room

  • Breakfast is served in the dining room on the ground floor, the door is 90cm wide.
  • There are 5-6 tables and 24 chairs.  The breakfast buffet is either in the dining room or in the adjacent sitting room, depending on the occupancy.
  • All the tables and chairs are easily moveable and similar in design, so tables maybe put together if larger parties are staying.
  • Breakfast arrangements are explained to all guests on arrival.
  • Any special dietary needs of guests are discussed upon arrival or during the booking process.
  • At breakfast guests are encouraged to help themselves to cereal, yoghurts, fruit and fruit juices while their main choice is cooked and served.

Public WCs

  • The public toilet is situated outside the dining room.  It is a unisex facility.
  • Dimensions are 1.10m x 1.10m.
  • It has a nonslip floor, a small washbasin and paper towel holder. 

Bedrooms

  • All bedrooms are on ground level.
  • All bedrooms are ensuite.  All the rooms are carpeted and the bathrooms and showers have nonslip flooring.
  • The rooms contain a single or double bed, 2 bedside tables, a wardrobe and at least one chair.
  • There are television sets in most of the bedrooms.
  • The lighting consists of a ceiling light and 1 or 2 bedside lights.
  • There is an electric kettle on the hospitality tray.
  • The beds are normally manufactured with antiallergenic duvets and pillows.
  • Rooms are serviced daily.
  • Notification if you are accompanied by your pet is appreciated.

Guest kitchen

  • There is a guest kitchen for communal use in the evenings, It comprises of a microwave a 2 ring hob and small oven.
  • The fridge and the washing machine can be used by all guests. 
  • There are glasses, plates and cutlery for everybody’s use.

Garden

  • We have a well maintained garden with lawns and flowerbeds.
  • Guests are welcome to enjoy the garden at all times.
  • We provide equipment for outdoor games, such as cricket, badminton and football.
  • There are also sun loungers, chairs, tables and a barbecue.

Additional Information

  • Families with children are very welcome at the guesthouse.
  • Pets are very welcome at the guesthouse.
  • Mobile reception is generally good.
  • A selection of local information is available on the notice board and on the displays in the front entrance hall.
  • There is a guset information folder in each bedroom, which provides information about the guesthouse and the local area.

Future Plans

  • We are planning to install digi boxes and flat screen televisions in all bedrooms during 2009.
  • Rethink use of the area to the front of the guesthouse but still provide level access.
  • Install French doors in the family room to create its own private garden.
  • Replace all net curtains with blinds in rooms.
